Fulfilling the potential of local food in England’s Northwest

The Northwest has the opportunity to become the best region in the UK for the availability, supply and consumer demand of local food and drink.

Our region is blessed with a rich diversity and range of local food manufacture matched with a growing demand among consumers. Retailers, wholesalers, food service and tourism businesses recognise this trend and are taking steps to improve their local food offer.

Despite this growth in consumer awareness and demand, certain barriers currently exist along the supply chain that prevents the successful development of the local food sector.

Food Northwest commissioned Rural Innovation to identify the opportunities and blockages for local food and put forward an integrated plan of action that will increase the availability, supply and consumer demand for the local food in the Northwest.
