The Northwest Dairy Strategy and Action Plan
A Strategy and Action Plan has been created for the Northwest Dairy Sector which has a value of £1.1 bn in the Northwest of England. The Northwest Region is an important part of the overall UK Dairy Farming Sector – 14% of the UK and 24% of England’s dairy farming activity occurs here in the North West.
The Action Plan has been developed following research and consultation with the Regions Dairy Industry carried out by Promar International and Reaseheath College under a commission by Food NW.
Following on the from the Consultation Day held at Reaseheath in June 2008, 3 key objectives for the NW Dairy Group were identified as follows:-
- Improving the environmental credentials of the dairy sector in the NW
- Strengthening the supply chain
- Improving education and boosting consumption of dairy products
One other key objective was also identified:-
- Interacting more effectively with other key organisations both internal and external to the region.
The NW Dairy Strategy and Action Plan was formally launched at the NFU office in Skelmersdale in February 2009 which was well attended by industry and public sector.
