Food and Drink Research

Summary:

Food & Drink Sector Research Scheme Pilot
Collaborating with our partners at the NWDA, Food Northwest is working with local businesses to encourage higher education engagement in the Food and Drink Sector. After a productive workshop session with Northwest companies, two priority themes were identified as areas where HE research would add significant value.

• Reduction and disposal of waste generally, and food waste in particular
• Reduction in ‘downtime’ of plant production

Impact of the Food and Drink Sector Research:  

The research looking at waste reduction will be undertaken by Manchester Metropolitan University, whilst the reduction in ‘downtime’ research will be carried out by Liverpool University.  Research results will be disseminated directly to the participating businesses and to the Sector generally via Food Northwest.

Funding for the Research Scheme Pilot is being provided by the NWDA.
