With family experience of more than eighty years in the butchery business     H Clewlow in Nantwich prides itself on its high standards, quality products and local supply chain.

Now run by the third generation of the family, headed by Charles Clewlow, the business employs more than 20 people and produces sausages, pies, cooked meats, bacon and kitchen-ready meals, as well as providing quality beef, lamb and pork, sourced as locally as possible, matured and butchered on its own premises.

The company prides itself on its selection of prize-winning pies and cooked meats. Sausages are its speciality and are available in over 20 award winning varieties. The company is also committed to training young people in traditional butchery skills, and currently has one trainee at the shop.

Established by Charles’s grandfather, Harry Clewlow in 1929, his father, also called Harry, entered the business at 19 after completing National Service. Charles (whose middle name is also Harry) went into the business at 16 and he has never looked back. He says he could never have imagined a different or better career, and is proud of the company’s award-winning products, and its commitment to working locally and supporting local farmers.

The idea for the winning Pork Pie with Caramelised Onion Chutney was inspired by one of the company’s sausage recipes, which seemed like the perfect combination for a pie.

Charles Clewlow said: “It’s nice to win awards locally and we were delighted to win for this pie, which was our ‘pie of the month’, last month. The local pork and the onion chutney are a great combination and complement each other perfectly. We continually strive to improve and develop our product range to give our customers a better choice and product awards such as these help to raise the standards of the food industry both locally and nationally.”

H Clewlow has won many awards over the years and was recently a finalist in the Meat Management Butcher’s Shop of the Year Award.
