The Lancaster Pasty Company in Blackburn produces handmade premium quality pasties, made with locally sourced ingredients.

Owner, Barry Wood has been in the bakery trade for 34 years, running his own business, Wood’s Craft Bakery for the last 27 years, with his wife Catherine.

Their new venture, The Lancashire Pasty Company, focuses on one of its best selling lines, the ‘Lancashire pasty’, with each variety made with no artificial colours or preservatives, based on a philosophy that ‘simple is best’.

Barry said: “Over the last five years we have seen a huge interest in where ingredients come from and as a long-standing company we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by such a vast array of fantastic, quality, local producers that we can use to create wonderful combinations.”

The company’s Food NW Gold Heart Award winner, the Bowland Lamb hotpot pasty uses Trough of Bowland Lamb with Ormskirk potations and onions, and Lancashire butter.

The company also secured a Food NW Heart award for its Mawsons Oldham Sarsaparilla apple and custard pasty.

The company’s product range includes; Thwaites’ steak and ale pasty; Fleetwood Fisherman’s pasty; Bury Black Pudding, caramelised onions and mustard pasty; Sandham’s cheese and spinach pasty; Manchester tart pasty and Sticky Toffee pudding and custard pasty.

Barry says: “We are delighted to win these awards, particularly as we are just starting our new venture. Winning the approval of the expert judges is a real honour and rewards all of our hard work.”
