FSA 10 Food Industry Stakeholder event
Feb 24th, Marriott Hotel, Preston (10.00am to 1.30pm)
The Food Standards Agency recently published its strategy for 2010 – 2015. This strategy established the outcomes and priorities that the Agency will work towards to ensure safe food and healthy eating for all.
On the 24th February the Agency will host a conference in London that will discuss implementation of the strategy. To coincide with this I am hosting an interactive ‘satellite’ meeting in the North West. This meeting will have a live link to the event in London, enabling us to contribute to the discussions taking place there.
We would like to invite you to meet on February 24th, with other food industry representatives, to discuss how the Agency can work with colleagues in the region to support the Agency’s strategy. We will hear Tim Smith, FSA Chief Executive discuss the key outcomes and priorities within the strategy, via a live webcast. Following this we would like to explore how we can work together to deliver these objectives and feedback any comments to the London event.
The Agency’s strategy describes how we will work to achieve our strategic objective to improve food safety and the balance of people's diets. The plan identifies five outcomes where we will focus our resources to improve public health.
These are:
- food produced or sold in the UK is safe to eat
- imported food is safe to eat
- consumers understand about safe food and healthy eating, and have the information they need to make informed choices
- food products and catering meals are healthier
- regulation is effective, risk-based and proportionate, is clear about the responsibilities of food business operators, and protects consumers and their interests from fraud and other risks.
We are committed to ensuring that food industry colleagues in the North West have an opportunity to input into our work and we do hope that you will be able to join us on February 24th at The Marriott Hotel, Preston from 10.00am.
Please respond by February 15th and in the meantime please contact Angela Towers if you would like any further information or to discuss this further.
