Spain is placed as the ninth-largest economy in the world and the fifth-largest in Europe.  From a UK trading perspective, Spain is the UK’s seventh largest export market overall – worth £15.7 billion and in recent years the UK has been the second largest foreign investor in Spain. In 2008 alone UK investment reached £1.6 billion. Moreover around 700 UK companies are already established in Spain.

There are opportunities for UK companies across all sectors in Spain. Not only can companies service the Spanish and European markets but can also leverage Spain as a gateway to Latin America.

Spain is divided into 17 autonomous communities and this event will have a focus on one of these regions – Murcia.

Murcia is located on the South East coast of Spain. It is perhaps more commonly known in the UK for tourism and golf, but in fact Murcia is a destination with many business opportunities and financial incentives making it an attractive business destination for UK companies

Some key benefits Murcia has to offer as a business destination include

• Financial incentives and initiatives – the region boasts lots of European Funding (i.e. objective 1) and so has many financial incentives available such as reducing labour costs by up to 50% and offering highly subsidised business premises.
• Low operational cost base – land and labour costs typically are 18% below the national average in Spain and 15% lower than the North West of England.
• High number of graduates, (100,000) with 7 universities within a 2 hour radius
• Well connected to the UK via road and air (many low cost carriers fly daily to the airports of Murcia and Alicante from the North West)
