Food Northwest Update...
Food Northwest and the public spending review
As many organisations in the public sector prepare for significant cuts or indeed closure as part of the comprehensive spending review, Food NW has been working hard on a new approach to helping its members and SMEs in the Northwest.
The public sector can appear confusing from the outside, and we may inadvertently get caught up in the media attention on this issue.
Food NW is currently financed from both the NWDA and from the E.U (which now represents the vast majority of our working capital).
Although the NWDA's direct support on cluster monies will cease from April 2011, Food NW has finance from Europe through ERDF plus we have already made provision and plans for the roll out of some brand new initiatives that are ideally suited for the times and economic climate of Food and Drink businesses together with our professional members.
These long term plans include a Northwest Food Distribution Hub to service SME’s logistical needs which will be available later this year. In addition to the ongoing work with food companies where we have established a way of working that gets results, we have introduced targeted tools that SME’s can use to get tangible and quick growth using upgraded and specific data sources for market intelligence based decision making using FMCG category methodology.

Screen debut for Pippa and The Dressing!
Pippa from The Dressing Company tells her story...
It all started with a family recipe, a salad dressing that my husband used to have when he was younger, that his Mum used to make. Friends loved it, said it was something quite unique and that we should develop and sell it. From there we went from strength to strength, selling it to friends, selling at school fairs and then on to country markets and small delis. Over this time it has been shelf life tested and we have developed a range of flavours. After a short break I am now back in my kitchen, selling in a couple of outlets and have a few country markets in the pipeline. This time I’m thinking big and I’m feeling confident. The Good Food Show approached me a couple of weeks ago for their new programme that they are launching called ‘The Big Adventure’. The Dressing will be coming to Sky viewers, to be aired week commencing 8th November.
The Dressing is so versatile and will literally dress up any meal you have. It should be a stock ingredient in anyone’s cupboard.
So what would I use the flavours for:-
Original (Tasty) - Loves everything, salads, sandwiches, chips...
Lemon (Tangy) - Best with chicken
Chilli (It's got a little kick!) - A great dip for crisps
Honey (Yummy) - Fantastic with sausages or other pork dishes
Garlic (Irresistible) - Great with steak or as a dip
Lime (Zingy) - The best accompaniment to fish
