Last Chance To Compete For Coveted ‘Home Baker Of The Year’ Title

CALLING ALL HOME BAKERS!

Wooden spoons and spatulas at the ready!

After an unprecedented amount of entries to Jane Asher’s Home Baker of the Year competition (HBOY), organisers Victoria Foods are giving creative types even longer to
compete for the title.  The deadline for entries has now been extended to the 16th August 2008.

Organised by Victoria Foods, Jane Asher’s HBOY competition is open to everyone over 16 across the UK.   The superb prizes on offer this year include a £25,000 Poggenpohl Kitchen complete with Miele appliances for the overall winner, and a fantastic weekend cookery course for two at Lucy Cooks in the Lake District plus an overnight stay at the 4* Lakeside Hotel as second prize.  Three runners-up will receive a luxury hamper of goodies from the Jane Asher Home Baking range.

The glittering final will be held on the 9th October at Poggenpohl Kitchen Showrooms in Manchester, during the city’s annual Food and Drink Festival.  The successful finalists will bake and present their cakes to the panel of esteemed judges including Good Housekeeping’s Associate Editor, Karen Barnes; BBC Radio 4 presenter Sheila Dillon;
Lucy Nicholson of ‘Lucy of Ambleside’ and Jane Asher herself.

Jane said today: ‘I’m extremely pleased that we’ve had so many entries this year - and that they’re more interesting, unusual and delicious than ever. The people who are entering the competition are really raising their game, and I can’t wait to sample the finalists’ cakes.  All of us have terrific fun reading the entries and judging the
finalists, but there’s a worthy intention behind it, which is to maintain the very British tradition of excellent baking.   To win the title of Home Baker of the Year is, of course, fast becoming the Oscar of the baking world....’

Dan Ross, Managing Director at Victoria Foods said: 'We’ve been organising the Home Baker of the Year competition for the last four years and each year it increases in popularity.  We are also noticing that the quality of entries goes from strength to strength each year, so the extended deadline is great news for us, because it gives contestants
even more time to hone their recipes to perfection!

'Jane is passionate about keeping the UK’s baking tradition alive and as such we work very closely with her to ensure HBOY encourages people to get as creative in the kitchen as possible.  HBOY allows Victoria Foods to interact with consumers to find out what they look for in cakes and desserts and is a great platform to raise awareness of our cake mixes.'
