MMU announces new alliance with food sector
09/04/2008
A collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Warrington-based vegetarian group Goodlife Foods has been highlighted as a model for knowledge transfer between universities and the UK's food and drink sector.
The institution's Department of Food and Tourism Management has been liaising with the company on matters related to nutrition, marketing and hygiene, among other issues, and has been recognised for its success.
MMU was placed in the top ten university-business alliances at the Technology Strategy Board's annual Knowledge Transfer Partnership awards, which indirectly raises the profile of the northwest's food and drink industry.
Professor Paul Ainsworth, from MMU's Department of Food and Tourism Management, said the university has been working with Goodlife for almost ten years.
"We have worked on new product ranges and recipe developments, overseen the growth of the firm's existing product range, as well as helped manage the redevelopment of packaging and labels," he commented.
Recently, MMU announced that its schools of law and business have created a new Postgraduate Certificate in Legal Management so that solicitors can learn skills needed to compete in the industry.
This has had the backing of the Law Society in the northwest and has been funded by the government.
