Dedicated Team Aims to Relieve Organic Waste Headaches

Don’t miss the ‘Food Waste Solution event’ January 2008, the aim of the event is to explain the issues surround organics waste disposal and the potential legal impacts on food waste producers. The event will also to offer up some of the currently available technologies which may help food waste producers deal with this problematic waste stream.

It is increasingly likely that organic waste streams will eventually be banned from landfill sites, including those generated by manufacturing, processing and catering outlets.  For many businesses this will be a cause for concern, however help is available.

Envirolink Northwest, the NWDA funded support organisation for the region’s environmental technologies and services (ETS) sector has a dedicated Recycling and Waste team tasked with diverting waste from landfill and expanding recycling capacity in the region. The team provides free advice and support to businesses on the available technologies - both tried and tested off-the-shelf products and more innovative bespoke engineering.   Envirolink Northwest has strong links with the manufacturers of technology that may provide alternatives for organic waste streams whether this is by providing an on-site solution or a centralised facility. The treatment technologies available essentially either feed energy back into a factory or produce a high quality compost which return nutrients and structure to the soil. If a centralised facility is more appropriate for your food waste Envirolink Northwest can also advise on collection rounds.

To promote these technologies and provide an insight into the laws on waste disposal and the future of organic waste, Envirolink Northwest will be holding an event in partnership with Food Northwest in mid January 2008.  Further details will be announced soon at www.envirolinknorthwest.co.uk and www.foodnw.co.uk
