Enterprise Inns' waste oil for cash initiative with Convert2Green!

Enterprise Inns have joined forces with leading bio-energy company Convert2Green Ltd (C2G), in a recycling initiative to turn waste cooking oil into cash and carbon savings!

Convert2Green, based in Middlewich, Cheshire, provide a free waste oil collection service across the Enterprise estate, before processing it into a range of high quality bio-fuel. In exchange for the oil, participating pubs receive a cash payment (dependent upon market prices), and a certificate promoting the pub’s carbon-cutting efforts.

To date, hundreds of Enterprise pubs have signed up to the scheme, which in one month alone saw more than 6,000 litres of waste oil recycled.

Chris Caddock, waste oil collection day

Pub retailer Chris Caddock, who runs the Rhiwderin Inn near Newport, South Wales and who once had to pay to have his waste oil disposed of legally, had nothing but praise for the scheme, “I’d recommend it to other pubs – it’s handy and there’s a cost saving. Plus it looks good from a customer point of view.”

Indeed, the food side of Chris’s business routinely produces in excess of 60 litres of used cooking oil a month. Not only does the recycling initiative enable him to cut his oil collection costs - to nil, but the pub’s carbon footprint - by about two tonnes.

It also provides Enterprise Inns the unique opportunity of entering into a ‘virtuous circle’, whereby the re-processed waste is used to fuel the 3663 delivery lorries, which supply the food! A truly ‘virtuous circle’, and one which enables an even greater carbon saving to be passed through the supply chain.

When considered that every 1,000 litres of used oil collected saves enough energy to heat and light a three-bed semi-detached house for a year - the importance of a recycling initiative such as this, becomes wholly apparent!
