Nantwich attracts record cheese competition entries

Competition is set to be the fiercest yet at Nantwich International Cheese Show, with a record 2,652 entries in the 160 classes.  The Show runs from 29-30 July at Dorfold Park in Nantwich, Cheshire.

The number of entries in the competition classes is up by 392 on 2007, an outstanding increase of almost 18%.  New classes for 2008 include Mixed Milk Cheese, Best Scottish Cheese, Best Irish Cheese and Best English Cheese.

Show Chairman Richard Paul is delighted by the response from UK and international competitors.  "We've got the cream of the world's producers competing at Nantwich this year, and the judges will certainly have their work cut out.  It's very encouraging that last year's poor weather hasn't put people off – if anything it's made competitors even more determined to support the Show.

"The Show has a proud history, and its continued success is down to making sure it remains fresh and relevant to the trade and producers as well as over 30,000 consumers who visit every year.  We're committed to ensuring Nantwich provides the number one showcase for world class products and expertise for many years to come," he added.
