Supermarket boss checks out Hollands

14th August 2009

The boss of supermarket giant Sainsbury's has praised Northwest pie maker Holland's for its commitment to good causes.

Mr King visited Holland's factory in Baxenden, Lancashire last Friday to thank company bosses for their support for the retailer's benevolent charity, Caravan, and to see how the famous products are made.

He said: "Holland’s is a company with a history of being involved with good causes and has been a great support recently to Caravan, both by attending events and providing sponsorship.

"Holland’s is an extremely popular brand in the North West. Their products sell well across our stores in the region and I was particularly interested in seeing the unique production processes that give Holland’s pies and puddings their
distinctive taste.”

A division of Northern Foods, Holland's employs 370 people at the factory in Baxenden.

Neil Court-Johnston, MD of Holland’s Pies said: “Caravan does much important work for former employees of the grocery industry who may have fallen on hard times, and Holland’s is proud to support the charity.”

“Justin’s visit coincides with the upcoming launch of our ‘Best Ever’ range, which will be introduced to the public very soon.

"We’re extremely excited about our new recipes and we are thrilled that Justin has been able to get a sneak preview of our new range before it goes into Sainsbury’s stores.”

Holland's pies has also made a new signing for the 2009 football season - Bolton Wanderers.

The Baxenden baker will supply the club's Reebok Stadium in a deal that increases its domination of Premiership catering as Holland's already supplies pies to Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool and Burnley.

Gareth Moores, Wanderers' commercial director, said:

"Holland's enjoy an iconic status in the north west, so I'm sure the fans will be very encouraged by our latest signing."
