IOSH Work Place Shadowing Scheme

Help mould graduates into the health and safety professionals of the future.

IOSH will help to source and place fresh graduates into your business.

IOSH has created a programme that provides an opportunity for businesses to recruit highly skilled undergraduates and recent graduates to gain a level of experience that will have a value in terms of achieving future employment as health and safety practitioners through shadowing experienced health and safety professionals.

What is the IOSH Work Place Shadowing Scheme?

The IOSH Work Place Shadowing Scheme is a third-party work experience scheme that lasts between 6-12 weeks.  IOSH will support businesses that are looking for talentedhealth and safety students and graduates by providing your organisation with a CV for every shadow offered and act as an intermediary for the organisation of the placement.

A shadowing scheme is different from an internship because the focus of the placement is on students ‘shadowing’ experienced health and safety practitioners by learning from them and supporting them in their role.  The organisation will not have to pay the shadow any form of wage of salary during the period of the shadowing scheme, but will be expected to cover reasonable travelling expenses.

How will it benefit my organisation?

Support Health and Safety graduates during the difficult economic climate.

Taking part in IOSH’s Work Place Shadowing Scheme will demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.

The purpose of the scheme is to assist newly qualified but unemployed health and safety practitioners to gain valuable work experience during the current recession.

This year the office of National Statistics announced that the graduate unemployment rate is at one in five – 20 per cent.  Graduate unemployment stands at its highest level in a decade.

With an ever aging workforce, the IOSH Work Place Shadowing Scheme is designed to help future proof the health and safety industry by providing the graduates of today with much needed experience opportunities which will in turn ensure the availability of qualified practitioners in the future.

IOSH are looking to create a conduit for graduates that are leaving university straight from the lecture theatres and into vocational experience instead of the dole queue.
