The Hawkshead Relish Company secures
Russian contract
The first consignment of Hawkshead Relish award winning artisan preserves is being shipped to the Russian Federation, in what promises to be a deal which will considerably boost production of this Lake District company.
The first order placed by OMEGA Standard LLC of St Petersburg is set to leave in a week, a company who imports and distributes to Russia’s most significant food outlets and has a reputation for sourcing optimum quality food from Europe.
The contract follows Hawkshead Relish visiting St Petersburg, on a trade visit organised by UK Trade and Investment in a bid to highlight the excellence and diversity of Britain’s speciality produce and present these to distinguished buyers from the Russian food sector. This was followed by executives from the Russian company visiting the production site of Hawkshead Relish in June.
The contract will see monthly shipments leaving Cumbria with building volumes as the brand is established in the Russian market.
Kate Nicholson who heads Hawksheads export sales strategy commented, “This is a very significant contract which will see Hawkshead Relish leading the trade route of speciality produce into the Russian federation; one that is of a major benefit to our company as well as our local economy.”
Adding “It is also good news for our industry, demonstrating British regional speciality food is sought globally!”
Mark Whitehead, managing director of Hawkshead Relish who recently received an MBE along with his wife co-director for `Services to Cumbria’s Food Industry exclaimed “Our relations with Omega Standard are based on mutual respect and a joint passion for culinary excellence. We are indeed proud that a taste of the Lake District will be available on Russian shelves”.
Maria added, “This is a further boost for our rural economy as well as helping to secure a sustainable future for our local community”.
