Northwest Organic Centre

Northwest Organic Centre Website
The Northwest Organic Centre (NWOC) supports the development of organic food and farming in Cheshire , Cumbria , Greater Manchester , Lancashire and Merseyside .

We are here to provide down to earth advice on all aspects of organic production and consumption - producers considering organic conversion, existing organic businesses, retailers looking for new products and for consumers looking for places to buy organic produce.

The Centre was established in 2004 and is funded through the North West Regional Development Agency via Food NW. The Centre works to promote and support the organic sector in the region.

The NWOC is project managed by the Soil Association , the leading charity supporting organic farming in the UK. This enables the Centre to deliver a wide range of services and to be in tune with the development of the organic sector throughout the UK.

A steering group has been established to guide the NWOC, chaired by the Soil Association it contains key stakeholders including Food Northwest whose main role is to ensure that all actions are linked into the wider Food and Drink Strategy and Food Northwest Action plan.

The NWOC produces a number of useful regional publications. In response to growing consumer interest in purchasing organic produce we have compiled a Local and Organic Directory.

This lists the producers who sell directly to the public, whether through their farm shop, farm gate sales, box scheme or other method; the retail outlets in the region that stock organic produce; mail order businesses and farmers’ markets that have an organic presence. The regular consumer newsletter, Organic North, contains news items such as new farms to visit, new retail outlets, events and seasonal recipes.

In addition a wide range of technical documents, published by the Soil Association and other leading organic organisations, on all aspects of organic production and related topics can be obtained through the Centre.

For more information on any of the publications please contact the office on 01995 642206 or email enquiries@nworganiccentre.org

Made in Lancashire is based at Myerscough College in the Rural Business Centre and supported in part by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) via Food Northwest and the Lancashire Rural Recovery Action Plan (LRRAP).
